Cubans Pena and Quesada to Final Four in Cayman Islands

Daisel Quesada has a NORCECA final to look forward to
Grand Cayman, Cayman Islands, April 22, 2017 – Top-seed Cubans Karell Pena and Daisel Quesada advanced to the men’s semifinals of the Cayman Islands Beach Volleyball Tournament at Seven Mile Beach on Saturday.

Pena and Quesada won the opening NORCECA event two weeks ago in La Paz, Mexico and continued their good form to cruise past St Clair Hodge and Kemoroy Percival of St Kitts and Nevis 2-0 (21-4, 21-10) in their quarterfinal.

Pena and Quesada will face Mark Burik and William Kolinske of USA-A who defeated Nicaragua’s Ruben Mora and Dany Lopez 2-0 (21-18, 21-19).

The other semifinal will be an all-Canada match with Aaron Nusbaum and Ryan Vandeburg playing Maverick Hatch and Garrett May.

Nusbaum and Vanderburg defeated Puerto Rico’s Orlando Irizarry and Juan RIbas 2-0 (21-11, 21-14), while Hatch and May overcame Guatemala’s Andy Leonardo and Luis Garcia 2-1 (19-21, 21-19, 15-11) in 53 minutes.
In the women’s tournament defending champions Betsi Flint and Kelley Larsen of USA-A advanced to semifinals where they will face compatriots Jace Pardon and Lara Dykstra on Sunday morning.
The other semifinal contest will pitch top-seeds Lidiannis Echeverria and Leila Martinez of Cuba against second seeded Jamie Broder and Caleigh Whitaker of Canada-A. 

Flint and Larsen subdued Melissa Burrowes and Ileann Powery of Cayman Islands-B 2-0 (21-4, 21-11) while Pardon and Dykstra defeated Puerto Rico’s Valeria Porrata-Doria and Ashley Vasquez 2-0 (21-7, 22-11).
Echeverria and Martinez dispatched Guatemala’s Maria Jose Orellana and Blanca Recinos 2-0 (21-12, 21-7) while Broder and Whitaker beat Nicaragua’s Lolette Rodríguez and Swan Mendoza 2-0 (21-15, 21-16).

The tournament is the second leg of the 2017 NORCECA Circuit. Six more tournaments follow with the next taking place in Oho Rios from June 22-26.
