Sierra Leone and Gambia win CAVB Zone 2 qualifier

 
Gambia won the women's competition in front of their home fans
Banjul, Gambia, April 18, 2017 - Beach volleyball teams from Sierra Leone and Gambia topped the men's and women's Zone 2 qualifiers for the CAVB African Nations Cup.
 
The Sierra Leone men's team beat Guinea Bissau 2-0 (21-8, 21-12) and hosts Gambia 2-0 (21-16, 21-19) to claim gold ahead of Gambia, who won silver after defeating Guinea Bissau 2-0 (21-6, 21-10). Guinea Bissau finished third after losing their two matches.
 
In the women's tournament, hosts Gambia claimed gold after cruising past Guinea Bissau 2-0 (21-6, 21-6) and Sierra Leone 2-0 (21-14, 21-15) to top the competition ahead of Sierra Leone, who came second after claiming a lone victory over Guinea Bissau 2-0 (21-9, 21-2). Guinea Bissau finished third without a victory.
 
The three teams participating had already booked their tickets to the finals of the African Cup to be organised in Mozambique from May 5 to 10, which also act as a qualifier for the 2017 FIVB Beach Volleyball World Championships.
