CISM to organise military world championships in beach volleyball and women's volleyball in 2017
The volleyball and beach volleyball championships organised by the International Military Sports Council will gather soldiers from around the world|
Lausanne, Switzerland, April 18, 2017 - The International Military Sports Council (CISM) will organise the 18th World Military Women's Volleyball Championship at the Naval Station Mayport in Florida, USA from June 2 to 11 and the 2nd World Military Beach Volleyball Championship in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil from November 6 to 13.
Founded on the 18th of February 1948 in Nice, France, CISM is one of the largest multidisciplinary organisations in the world. CISM organise various sporting events for the armed forces of its 134 member countries and is one of the global sports organisations in which the largest number of disciplines is represented. Soldiers, who may previously have met on the battlefield, now meet in friendship on the sports playing field.
The FIVB and CISM signed a memorandum of understanding during the Rio 2016 Olympic Games facilitating a four-year collaboration between the two organisations with the overall objective to promote volleyball within militaries around the world. For more information, click here.
