Carthage crowned African champions after epic final

CF Carthage of Tunisia celebrate their first ever African Club Championship title.

Monastir, Tunisia, April 16, 2017- Tunisia's Club Feminin de Carthage printed their name for the first time in the history books after they defeated dark horses Shams from Egypt in epic tiebreaker 3-2 (16-25, 25-17, 26-24, 20-25, 15-11) in the 2017 Women's African Club Championship final to claim the cup for the first time in their history.

Khouloud Jenhani led Carthage with her 23 points and picked up the Best server Award of the competition. Nada Meawad, who was top scorer of the final with 25 points for Ahly was named MVP of the tournament.

In the third place playoff Kenya Prisons pulled off another shock denying last year's champions Ahly of Egypt of winning any medal in the competition. They stunned them with a 3-2 (25-13, 10-25, 25-20, 22-25, 10-15) win for the bronze medal. It was a revenge for Prisons who had lost to Ahly in the pool stages 3-0.

In the playoff for position 5-6, former powerhouse of African volleyball Kenya pipeline beat Sonatrach in a hard-fought battle Sunday 3-0 (33-31, 25-12, 25-18) to claim fifth place.

Sfaxien of Tunisia also win big against INJS 3-1 (25-21, 25-23, 23-25, 25-9) to got their ranking mark at seventh.
