Ahly Egypt and GSP Algeria progress to quarterfinals at African Women's Club Championship

Monastir, Tunisia, April 10,  2017 - Defending champions Ahly Egypt (Pool B) and Algerian favourites GSP (Pool C) joined the teams qualified for the quarterfinals of the 2017 Women's African Club Championship following their victories on Day 5 of the competition respectively over Tunisia's Marsa and Rwandan Army in Monastir, Tunisia on Monday.
 
Early on Sunday, four other teams confirmed second round tickets, namely organisers Carthage (Pool A), Kenya Pipeline (Pool C), Shams of Egypt and Tunisia's Sfaxien (Pool D) to leave only two remaining vacancies in the quarters line-up to be determined in the sixth and final day of the preliminary round on Tuesday.
 
The second ticket in Pool A will be confirmed by the match between Injis (Cameroon) and Ndejje (Uganda) and the second ticket in Pool B will be determined by the last two matches of the pool when Prisons (KEN) face University (ZIM) and Bejaia (ALG) meet Ahly (EGY).
 
Day 5 featured another victory for organisers Carthage over Asec Mimosas of Cote d'Ivoire 3-0 (25-13, 25-8, 25-16) who topped their pool with three straight victories. Carthage won their three Pool A matches against Ndejje, INJS and Asec.
 
In Pool B, Bejaia got their first win of the championship when they beat University of Zimbabwe 3-0 (25-15, 25-18, 25-11). University of Zimbabwe are participating in the championship for the first time and are yet to win a match.
 
In another Pool B showdown, defending champions Ahly beat Marsa of Tunisia 3-0 (25-17, 25-15, 25-11). So far the Egyptian giants have registered three wins beating Prisons, University of Zimbabwe and Marsa. They will play against Bejaia to complete the first round.
 
Army of Rwanda continues to search redemption in the competition following another defeat to GSP of Algeria 3-0 (25-20, 25-12, 25-25) in Pool C. GSP have now booked qualification to the quarterfinals.
 
Pool D featured a victory for Shams of Egypt against Sfaxien of Tunisia 3-0 (25-23, 25-10, 25-21). Shams were already through to the quarters and sealed the top spot in the pool with the victory. Despite their loss, Sfaxien also progress with wins against FAP and ARSU.

Shams (EGY) v Sfaxien (TUN) 3-0 (25-23, 25-10, 25-21)
