Favourites win as African CLub Champs get under full steam

Lausanne, Switzerland, April 7, 2017 - Al Ahly of Cairo opened their defense of the African Women's Club Championship with a convincing 3-1 (25-14, 25-21, 18-25, 25-16) over Kenya Prisons as the 27th edition of the competition got under full steam in the Tunisian city of Monastir.

Meanwhile, seven-time African club champions and last year's silver medallists Kenya Pipeline beat Rwanda Army 3- 0 (26-24, 25-14, 25-12) with some creative setting by Jane Wacu and some efficient attacking from Seraphine Mukantambara.

Club Sportif Sfaxien of Tunisia also started their campaign with a victory, dominating Anse Royale (ARSU) 3-0 (25-15, 25-16, 25-22).



But the third Tunisian side in the competition, Marsa, staged the upset of the day on Friday, when they beat Algeria's Bejaia 3–0 (25-13, 25-22, 25-17).

In other matches of the opening round, Shams of Egypt thrashed the Armed Forces & Police of Cameroon 3-0 (25-9, 25-7, 25-12) and the National Institute of Youth and Sport of Cameroon shut out Asec of Abidjan 3-0 (25-16, 25-16, 25-22).

Action in Monastir continues on Saturday with five more matches of pool play
