Mauritian women's team, coach honoured at sports awards
The Mauritian women’s beach volleyball team were named Team of the Year 2016, while the team’s coach, Reza Itoola, was honoured as Coach of the Year 2016.
The Prime Minister of Mauritius and Minister of Finance, the Honourable Pravind Kumar Jugnauth and the Minister of Youth and Sports, the Honourable Stephan Toussaint, attended the gala awards ceremony.
The Mauritian women’s beach volleyball team finished in the Top 4 at the Continental Cup in Nigeria last April and won the Zone 7 Nations Cup in Madagascar last July. The team was represented by Vanessa Chellumben, Ange Ramdoss, Maita Bassy and Heidy Durhonne, and the coach was Reza Itoola.
“It's a great honour for me to receive this trophy for the first time in my career,” said Itoola, who has been involved in the promotion, organisation and coaching of beach volleyball for over 25 years.
“I wish to thank the Mauritian Volleyball Federation – particularly President Faysal Bundhun, Vice-President Jean-Michel Dedans and General Secretary and President of Zone 7 Kayseeven Teeroovengadum – for giving me the opportunity to share my experience. My dream now is to serve the CAVB while developing beach volleyball much more in my country and in Zone 7.”
