Brazil women, Argentine men triumph on South American Tour

The Ancon tournament was the second stop on the South American Tour
Lausanne, Switzerland, March 4, 2017 – The Brazilian women's duo of Lili Maestrini and Josi Alves and Argentine men Julian Azaad and Nicolas Caprogosso were crowned champions at the second stop of the South American Beach Volleyball Tour in Ancon, Peru, on Sunday.

Maestrini/ Alves achieved first place by using their experience against the young Paraguayan pair of Erika Mongelos and Michelle Valiente, winning 2-0 (21-9, 21-14).

"We are a new pair and our main goal is to improve tournament by tournament,” Maestrini said. “Brazil has many strong pairs and our goal is focused on reaching the World Tour and for our country to continue rising in the rankings.”

In the men's final, Azaad/ Capogrosso had a much tougher match as they dropped the first set and were forced to a tiebreak against Chileans Marco and Esteban Grimalt. The Argentine duo held on to win 2-1 (22-24, 21-17, 16-14).

"Our first objective is the World Championship in Austria in August,” Capogrosso said. “We are training very hard for that and the result we achieved here will motivate us to continue fighting. In the long term, we are aiming at the Pan American Games and we hope to return to win a medal in Lima 2019.”

Third place in the women's tournament went to Chilean pair Francisca Rivas and Pilar Mardones who defeated Ecuador's Mishelle Molina and Ariana Vilela 2-0 (21-17, 22-20).

In the men’s section, Brazilians Oscar Brandao and Hevaldo Moreira edged Uruguay’s Mauricio Vieyto and Marco Cairus 2-1 (21-18, 17-21, 15-9).
