Czech duos triumph on the Spindleruv Mlyn snow
Lausanne, Switzerland, February 26, 2017 – Czech duos delighted the home crowds by winning gold in both the women and men’s competitions at the Spindleruv Mlyn Snow Volleyball tournament, the second stop on the 2017 CEV Snow Volleyball European Tour.
Marketa Bendikova and Nicole Dostalova won women’s gold by defeating qualifiers Ludmila Lojkova and Radka Tuckova in a 3-0 (11-9, 11-9, 11-6) win. In the bronze medal match Anna Dostalova and Michaela Knoblochova beat Natalie Kolderova and Andrea Rybova 2-1 (7-11, 11-8, 11-5).
“We played Snow Volleyball for the first time and we did not expect to come out on top,” Bendikova said. “It was a good experience for us. It is extremely difficult to move on the court, but we had a lot of fun and we hope we will come back.”
In the men’s side of the draw the Kufa brothers David and Robert were too strong for top seeds Michal Matyja and Piotr Janiak and beat the Polish pair 3-1 (9-11, 11-3, 11-8, 11-8) in the gold-medal match.
Poland’s Piotr Groszek and Grzegorz Rusin won bronze with a 2-1 (9-11, 11-9, 11-8) victory over Tomas Pala and Jan Chalupa.
“Two weeks ago in Iran we lost to this team and now we got our revenge, so it’s awesome - we like it,” David Kufa said. “It is really nice to win here, in the Czech Republic, as a home team. The crowd was amazing. They cheered for us and helped us win.
“We will play at least one more tournament this year and we are really looking forward to the European Championship next year. The sport is really growing fast and this is great. This event was very cool and we would like to thank the organisers.”
