Mexico Leagues attract huge interest as season begins

Tapatias of Guadalajara enjoy an early lead in the 2017 Mexican League.
Lausanne, Switzerland, February 23, 2017 - Mexico's domestic leagues are off to a flying start in 2017, after the 4th editions of the men's and women's competitions attracted huge interest from the fans both on site and on internet coverage.

With a vision of providing the opportunity for the best teams and players in the country to develop the sport professionally, the leagues are made up of eight women's and six men's teams from across Mexico, involving a total of more than 200 volleyball players.

The Tigers and Tigresses of the Autonomous University of Nuevo Leon are both defending the titles they won in 2016 in the three-month competition which culminates with the Final Fours in the city of Durango on April 22 and 23.

With national team stars like Carolina Carranza, Miranda Oroz and Zaira Orellana on their roster, Tapatias Guadalajara of Jalisco enjoy an early lead in the Regular Season of the women's competition.

Despite fielding a very young team with an average age of only 20, UANL Tigers lead the men's competition thanks to the experience of head coach Jorge Azair, who recently led the Mexican national team to their historic participation in the Rio 2016 Olympic Games.
