Pipeline, Prisons split titles in Kenya

Triza Atuka of Kenya Pipeline, named MVP at the playoffs finals of the Kenyan championship.
Lausanne, Switzerland, November 29, 2016 - The men's team of Kenya Prisons and the women's team of Kenya Pipeline picked up the national league titles in the African country after the playoffs of the competitions in Mombasa.

Pipeline twice came from behind for a 3-2 (21-25, 25-17, 21-25, 25-23, 15-9) triumph over Prisons in the women's final for the title, finishing the playoffs undefeated after having lost to their archrivals twice in the Regular Season.

For Prisons it extended the title drought to three consecutive years. The last time they won the title was way back in 2013.

In the men's competition Prisons reclaimed the title they lost to General Service Unit last year after sweeping Kenya Ports Authority 3-0 (25-22, 25-20, 25-19) in the deciding match.

The Kenyan Volleyball Federation also confirmed the individual awards, with Triza Atuka of Kenya Pipeline named women's MVP and Jitus Bett of Kenya Prisons the men's title.

The winning teams each received 300,000 Kenyan Shillings (2,785 euros, 2,945 US dollars) in prize money.
