Serbia start medal race with 3-0 over Chinese Taipei

Serbia is the first team to qualify for Friday's quarterfinals. Serbia eased past Chinese Taipei 3-0 in Wednesday’s first round of 16 match at Kajot Arena.
Brno, Czech Republic, June 26, 2013 – Serbia eased past Chinese Taipei 25-15, 25-18, 25-20 in Wednesday’s first round of 16 match at Kajot Arena. The Asians did their best to push Serbia to their limits but could not cope with the athletic skills and precision the Serbian athletes displayed.

Tijana Boskovic led the way for Serbia with 16 points – the 191 centimetres Boskovic was a dominant force, scoring 13 points on attack alone, while Mina Popovic added 14 points. Captain Wei-Hua Wu finished with nine points for Chinese Taipei.

Radko Pavlicevic’s team made a bright start, taking a comfortable 2-0 set lead before Chinese Taipei ran off several remarkable rallies to control the early stages of the third period. However, an 18-16 lead was not good enough for the Asians to pull clear. The momentum had now clearly swung Serbia's way after Chinese Taipei's spirited efforts early in the set. The eastern Europeans were consistently rebuffing their opponents at the net and they wrapped up the win by taking the third set 25-20.

The Europeans are the first team to qualify for Friday's quarterfinals.
