Full squad of
USA men defeat Argentina in series finale
Gualeguaychu,
Argentina, July 31, 2005 - Playing with the full team for the
first time in this five-match tour, the USA Mens National
Volleyball Team recorded a 3-1 win over Argentina in the series
finale Saturday night.
Dave McKienzie scored a match-high 25 points in the 22-25,
25-21, 25-21, 28-26 victory for the United States, which won
four of the five matches on the tour all by 3-1 scores.
McKienzie had 22 kills, two service aces and one block in his
first match of the series. In the first four matches, the
Americans had just seven of a possible 12 players in uniform due
to a visa issuance problem.
"It was great to have our full squad here," said Team USA head
coach Hugh McCutcheon. "Even though the guys were a bit rusty,
we played with some heart and were able to win a tight match.
Overall, we are very happy to have been able to come to
Argentina to play these matches and we are looking forward to
playing the America's Cup next week."
Jim Polster tallied 13 points on 11 kills and two blocks while
Tom Hoff scored 12 points on seven kills and five blocks for the
Americans, who improved to 9-4 overall this season.
Team USA will now travel to Porto Alegre, Brazil, to compete in
the Americas Cup along with Argentina, Brazil, Canada, Cuba and
Venezuela from Aug. 2-7. |
