Cairo, Egypt, July 1, 2003 - The national teams from Egypt and Morocco leave Tuesday for Thailand to participate in the 8th Boys' U-19 World Championship.
They have been preparing together at a training camp in Cairo where they contested four friendly matches. Egypt won three matches, all with 3-1, while Morocco won the remaining match, also 3-1.
Both teams have had difficult circumstances in their preparation for this World Championship, as, because of the age category, many players were also facing their final year examinations of their secondary education.
This meant that preparation for the championship was postponed until only days before leaving for the World Championship.
The Moroccan players benefited slightly as their exams finished on June 15, but the Egyptian players only completed their exams one day before departure.
In fact, players have been attending exams in the morning then going straight to training or to play friendly matches.
Ihab Fakhr El-Deen, the Egyptian head coach said that he really needed two more weeks to prepare his players well and to rid them of exam stress, but on the eve of departure, he still promised to achieve good results.
Egypt, the Africa champions in this age category, will play in Pool B with Slovakia, Russia and China, while Morocco, the African vice-champions, will play in Pool D with Italy, Iran and Netherlands.
