Germany's national trainer Hee Wan Lee has announced his 12-member squad to contest the FIVB World Grand Prix, the premier women's annual women's volleyball competition, this year to be held in Italy.
The German team, third last year in Hong Kong, are now moving into concentrated preparation for the event (July 21- Aug. 3) with three international friendlies against World Championship bronze medalists Russia on the program.
The sides clash in Eisenhüttenstadt, Germany on July 10, then in the town of Angermünde on July 11. The location for the third match on July 12 is yet to be announced. The team then leaves for the World Grand Prix on July 19.
Lee has promised his team a hard preparation for this year's event, necessary because in this edition they face World Champions Italy, World Championship silver medalists USA, Olympic Champions Cuba, the Netherlands and Japan in their group. Russia, China, Brazil, Canada, Thailand and Korea contest the second group.
The World Grand Prix will be played in the towns of Gioia del Colle, Matera and Andria, all in southern Italy near the city of Bari.
Hee Wan Lee has named most of the players who have been contesting the European championship qualification.
