June 25, 2003 - With the job of qualifying for the World League Finals already done the defending World League champions Russia will be taking the chance to rest some of their key members of their star team this weekend when they play Poland in the final weekend of the Intercontinental Rounds.
Russia stormed through the Intercontinental Rounds recording eight wins on the trot before losing their first match against Poland last weekend 3-1. Now, with their spot at the Finals, due to be held in Madrid, Spain from July 8-13, confirmed Russian coach Guennady Chipouline is expected to rest some of his big guns like Maxim Tereshin and Pavel Abramov when he names his side on Thursday.
Sergey Tetiukhin, who has returned from injury, and Alexandr Guerassimov are expected to be the two replacements for the two matches, with the first match on Friday at 14:00 GMT before playing again on Saturday at 14:00.
Poland needs to beat Russia at least once this weekend to keep themselves in World League Finals contention.
