Portugal's battle with Germany to avoid last place "the wooden spoon" in Pool B takes on a distinctive Brazilian flavour this weekend in Week 7, the final round, of the World League Intercontinental Rounds.
Both Portugal and Germany are tied with 12 points but Germany currently sits in third spot on Set Ratio difference having won five more sets in pool play than Portugal. So the almost impossible task of Portugal beating Brazil in South America will be the only way the world number 14 will be able to move off the bottom of the group. An upset of the highest order will be required as the Portuguese have yet to trouble either of the two superpowers in their pool, Italy and Brazil, and have still to take a set off either of them.
Portugal fly out to Brazil on Wednesday and coach Juan Diaz has kept the same 12-man line up that recorded a win and a loss with Germany last weekend.
Portugal: Nuno Pinheiro, Adriano Paço, Ubirajara Pereira, Eurico Peixoto, Roberto Reis, Carlos Teixeira, João Malveiro, Fábio Milhazes, João José, Manuel Silva, Hugo Gaspar, Jorge Alves.
