June 23, 2003 - After nine wins out of ten international matches recently in Switzerland and Russia, the Chinese women's Volleyball team has gained a lot of confidence in the international tournaments and are eager to return to the top of the FIVb World Rankings, a team official said.
In the two tournaments held in June, China claimed the title of the Montreux Masters in Switzerland and finished runners-up at the Russian President Cup.
Li Quanqiang, the team leader of the Chinese women's Volleyball team said, "Nine wins out of 10 games gave us much more confidence in the international tournaments, but the only defeat also taught us a lot. We found our weakest and our potential opponents in the world."
China will take part in the World Grand Prix in Italy in late July as the warm-up for the Women's World Cup, which will be held in Japan in November. Li refused to forecast the performance of China in the World Cup, in which the top three finishers will gain a berth at the 2004 Athens Olympics directly. "We will try our best, but the future does not depend on the forecast." said Li.
But the head coach of the Chinese Women’s Volleyball team Chen Zhonghe said more than once earlier, that the Chinese team would try their utmost to finish top three in the coming World Cup in Japan. Immediately after their return from abroad, the Chinese women Volleyball players began their training again in Beijing to prepare for the Grand Prix, Asian Senior Women's Championship to be held in Vietnam in September, and the World Cup.
