Both captains missing in Germany-Brazil World League clash

June 11, 2003 - Germany and the World Champions Brazil meet this weekend in Berlin in Week 5 of the World League Intercontinental Rounds both playing without their captains. While Brazil's Nalbert has been instructed by coach Bernadino to rest up at home, the break for German skipper Stefan Hübner is of another nature. Hübner, who plays during the club season in the Italian league, is suffering from a complaint that often troubles volleyball players, Patella Instability, and according to recommendations from the German team doctor he should not play anymore matches in the 2003 World League. "I don't want to risk not being able to play in the European Championship in my own country and that is why we reached this decision," Hübner said. "I'm naturally bitter because I really would have loved to play against Italy or Brazil. Instead Hübner will concentrate on conditional training and will receive physiotherapy treatment. Sebastian Prüsener (TSV Unterhaching) will now join the German team and will play in the position of alternate libero alongside current libero Till Lieber. Three weeks have already been played in Pool B with Brazil, with a 5-1 win-loss record in first place on equal points with Italy. Germany, with a 1-5 win-loss record, is equal on points with Portugal. The German team to play Brazil: Björn Andrae, Christian Pampel, Norbert Walter, Ilja Wiederschein, Frank Dehne, Marco Liefke, Eugen Bakumovski, Till Lieber, Ralph Bergmann, Wolfgang Kuck, Mark Siebeck, Georg Wiebel, Sebastian Prüsener, Jochen Schöps
