Netherlands' coach Bert Goedkoop is hoping to take advantage of his side's performance against Serbia and Montenegro last weekend, where they beat the Olympic and European champions in one of the two matches, and win both matches when the Netherland's host Cuba this weekend in World League week three action.
Goedkoop's team had struggled prior to the start of the World League with injuries and the absence of key players but last weekend, in the opening round of matches for Pool C, they pulled off a shock 3-1 win in the second match.
The Netherlands have been traditionally better than Cuba in recent World League encounters and that is the way Goedkoop now wants to keep it.
"After a indifferent period the Cuban team is recovering and rebuilding," Goedkoop said. "They have a couple of talented players who had a chance to play last year and are now playing to a high level and over the past few years in international matches we were the best of the two sides and we aim to keep it this way".
Cuba beat Bulgaria 3-2 in their first match of the 2003 edition in Bulgaria but lost the second 0-3 to give coach Eliceao Ramos Rivas plenty to think about.
