The Netherlands captain Reinder Nummerdor has postponed having his troublesome right shoulder examined and has been named in his national team's lineup for their opening matches against Serbia and Montenegro in World League Group C this weekend.
Nummerdor was due to have the shoulder looked at by a doctor on Monday with possible surgery soon after but has postponed it another week, freeing him up to play in this all-important opening clash in Eindhoven.
The Netherland's are coming off two warm up games against Germany, which resulted in a 3-0 loss and a four-set match finishing at 2-2 but with Nummerdor and other stars such as Guido Görtzen and Richard Shuil back in the fray the Netherlands coach Bert Goedkoop will be hoping for a better start in the World League.
This weekend's first up assignment on Saturday and Sunday shapes as one of the biggest obstacles the Netherlands will face in Pool C and Goedkoop knows his team is in for a tough time.
"As Olympic and European champions Serbia and Montenegro are the absolute favourites in the Pool," The Netherlands coach Bert Goedkoop said. They have a good mix of talented young players and older top class experienced players. It is an absolute challenge to be playing them again in the World League."
The Netherlands' early pre-season form has been less than encouraging with losses to Belgium and Brazil but they will take heart from the fact that they qualified for the European Championship earlier in May.
The Netherlands: Dirk-Jan van Gendt, Nico Freriks; Marko Klok (libero); Reinder Nummerdor, Guido Görtzen; Richard Schuil, Allan van de Loo; Joppe Paulides, Robert Horstink, Rob Bontje, Dennis van der Veen and Joram Maan.
