The FIVB congratulates Argentinean sports authorities

Lausanne, Switzerland, May 12, 2003 - It is with great pleasure that the International Volleyball Federation (FIVB) has received the decision by the general assembly of Argentinean sports authorities to nominate a reorganisation committee, which will be presided, for the interim, by Dr. Rodolf M. Casamiquela. It has been six months, November 11, 2002, since the FIVB has been insisting that the Argentinean Volleyball Federation (FAV) elect a president and reorganise the FAV with personnel who are neither suspended or expelled. Better late than never. "On behalf of the President of the FIVB Dr. Rubén H. Acosta and of the Board of Administration I would like to congratulate above all Mr Daniel Scioli, the Argentinean Minister of Tourism and Sports, the Argentinean Sports Coordinator Mr Victor S. Groupierre, the President of the Argentinean Olympic Committee Colonel Antonio Rodriguez, Mr Hernan J. Ferrari, the secretary general of the Argentinean Olympic Committee and Dr. Jorge D. Rapaport, the Director General of Sport for the Buenos Aires Government of whom have listened to our appeal and have made a great effort to put Argentinean volleyball back in place with merit," said FIVB General Manager Mr. Jean-Pierre Seppey. "The FIVB has always protected the players and it is in this sense that the FIVB Board of Administration has also decided to facilitate the transfers for the Argentine players. I hope sincerely that the general assembly, who will elect the personnel who will be responsible for the FAV, will meet in the next few weeks and apply the statutes and the decisions of the FIVB quickly so that the Argentinean players will be able to participate as soon as possible in the international competitions of the FIVB. "The FIVB will be represented at this general assembly by a vice-president."
