May 07, 2003 - The Netherlands' recent run of disappointing results have continued with a 3-0 (25-23, 25-23, 25-22) loss to Belgium in Bree in a friendly match on Tuesday. After losing a series with the World Champions Brazil 2-1 at home last week, the Netherlands are now looking for some momentum by playing two games in Belgium before heading into European Championship qualifying matches this weekend.
But injuries and player unavailability didn't help Bert Goedkoop and his men in a below par performance against the 50th ranked team in the world. The Netherlands, ranked 7th in the world, will now be looking forward to the return of Reinder Nummerdor, who has been playing for his Italian club Milan but returns for Wednesday's game in which the Netherlands will be looking for an improved performance.
Both teams are preparing for European Championship qualifying matches, which start on Friday. The Netherlands travel to Macedonia for the second round of three matches in Pool 3, where they are second behind Spain while Belgium head to Croatia to complete Pool 1 matches, where they are third, behind Bulgaria and Hungary.
