Santo Domingo, Dominican Republic, March 28, 2005 - The Dominican Republicís aspirations for the Womenís U-20 World Championship are to finish among the top six teams of the event to be staged in two cities of Turkey next July.
The announcement was made by Mr. Cristobal Marte, President of the Womenís Development Program of the Dominican Volleyball Federation.
The Dominicans will play in Pool B in the city of Istanbul with the representatives of Puerto Rico, Italy, Russia, Egypt and China while in Pool A in Ankara will compete USA, Brazil, Croacia, Serbia & Montenegro and host Turkey.
The group has been training without rest and with the goal of shining at international competitions and they represent the new breed of our Womenís Volleyball, said Mr. Marte.
The core of the team consist of promising players as Bethania de la Cruz, Cindy Rondon, Dahiana Burgos, Sidarka Nunez, Karla Echenique, Gina Mambru, Ana Esther Lara and twins Gina and Ginette Selmo.
They are the new prospects for the first National Team and in a relatively short time will take the next step, added Mr. Marte. They have a lot of potential and at this stage of their careers are technically more advanced than the current members of our senior squad.
The team has been training and playing with the Chinese Team of the Tainjin Province for the past two weeks and the fruits are starting to show.
The exchange with the Chinese Team will be a big help for the technical growth of our girls, he said. We have the chance to squeeze up among the top five or six teams of the world because the talent is there.
