Jamaica hosts first round of World Championships in Norceca

Kingston, March 18, 2005 - Jamaica will host the most prestigious Volleyball event in its history, April 13 to 18, 2005 as the 1st round World Championships serves off for the Norceca Confederation.

Jamaica will play host to the Netherlands Antilles (AHO); British Virgin Islands (BVI); Cayman Islands (CAY).

Jamaica (47) is the highest ranked team in the group while the Netherlands Antilles (58) are next. The other two teams are not ranked.

Jamaica last placed second in the Caribbean Championships 2004 in Barbados while they were knocked out at the round two level in 2001 at the last qualifiers.

The event is scheduled for the National Arena in Kingston, a part of the Independence Park Complex where all major national events are held.

The Arena has a seating capacity of 7,000 and is part of a complex, which hosts swimming, track and field, soccer, basketball, Volleyball and field hockey.
