Four Europe's best fight for ultimate crown

Luxembourg, March 16, 2005. The women's Indesit European Champions' League, the highlight of the European Volleyball season, will come to an end this weekend when the Final Four is scheduled in Tenerife, Spain. As all four participants stand equal chances of seizing the title with each one already having won a European Cup in the past, the Final Four promises to be one to remember.

Following the spectacular league round and several tight matches during the play-offs the women's Indesit European Champions' League is finally down to the best four teams.

In the first semifinal host Tenerife Marichal will meet Italian Foppapedretti Bergamo, a match between two European Volleyball superpowers. Whilst Tenerife Marichal won the previous edition of the Indesit European Champions' League, the first major victory for the Spanish champion, Foppapedretti Bergamo has a slight better record. The Italian champion won the former Champions Cup three times and reached the Final Four of the Indesit European Champions' League in 2002/03. Both teams will be counting on their stars. On the Spanish side Magaly Carvajal and the Dutch national team captain Ingrid Visser belong to the best volleyball players in the world. For Foppapedretti Bergamo the most important players are German Angelina Grün, Russian Lioubov Kilic and Italian Francesca Piccinini.

In the second semifinal 2002 and 2003 Indesit European Champions' League winner Rc Cannes from France will face Sant'Orsola Asystel Novara, the second Italian team in the Final Four. After experiencing some difficulties during the league round matches, the French squad finally reached the Final Four without further problems. For Sant'Orsola Asystel Novara it will be the first Final Four appearance in the Indesit European Champions' League. However, the team coached by Angelino Frigoni is owner of another European Cup title, namely the CEV Cup which they won in 2003.

Similar to the first semifinal the follow-on semifinal will also stage many international stars. Whilst Victoria Ravva is the most important player for Rc Cannes, already having won several MVP awards in the Indesit European Champions' League, Polish Malgorzata Glinka (2003 Best European player award) and Italian national team libero Paola Cardullo are the most famous players on the Italian side of the net.

The Final Four will take place in the La Laguna Arena in Tenerife, Spain. More than 3'000 spectators are expected to attend as was the case in the sold-out arena last year. Following the semifinals on Saturday, the final will be taking place on Sunday at 16.00 hrs local time.
