CEV Cup attains Final Four stage

Luxembourg, January 13, 2005. Following the home matches of the quarterfinal rounds in the first week of January 2005, the subsequent away matches of the Men's and Women's CEV Cup during the last three days have determined seven from eight semifinal contenders.

From the starting 48 teams representing 25 different European countries only TOURCOING Lille Métropole (FRA), Lube MACERATA (ITA), Son Amar Palma MALLORCA (ESP) and Somec PADOVA (ITA) made it to the Final Four stage in the men's competition, all hoping to succeed defending champion Kerakoll MODENA (ITA).

The postponement of the women's encounter between Russian Balakovskaia AES BALAKOVO and Spanish CV ALBACETE to Wednesday, 26th January 2005 - the day of the drawing of lots for the Women's Indesit European Champions' League 2004/05 playoff round - resulted in the determination of only three CEV Cup semifinal teams this week, namely Pallavolo Sirio PERUGIA (ITA), Vini Monte Schiavo JESI (ITA) and OMS SH SENICA (SVK).

Whichever team finally wins this competition will face a challenging time stepping into the shoes of 2003/04 CEV Cup titleholder Foppapedretti BERGAMO (ITA), who have already qualified for the Women's Indesit European Champions' League playoff round as pool A leader with an impressive 7:1 match ratio (23:7 set ratio).

Both Final Four tournaments will be carried out on the weekend of 5th - 6th March 2005 with the venues being determined by the CEV Board of Administration in Almeria, Spain, on 22nd January 2005.
