VENEZUELA LEADS THE XVII SOUTH-AMERICAN WOMEN'S JUNIOR TOURNAMENT

After defeating Bolivia 3-0 ( 25-14, 25-14, 26-24) Venezuela reached the top of the table at the XVII South-American Women's Junior Volleyball Tournament. In the round opener, at the "Julio Borelli Viteritto" gymnasium, in La Paz, Argentina beat Peru 3-1 (25-16, 21-25 , 25-18, 25-13).

The Argentines, who were making their debut, proved their worth in the first set, when they scored 25-16 in 20 minutes. Peru fought back and leveled the score with a 25-21 win in the second set. But the Argentine side was more experienced and ended up winning the following two sets. Dina Gaido and Iliana Leyendeker were among the winner's highlights.

The 1500 supporters who attended the round did their best to help Bolivia but the hosts couldn't match Venezuela. In the first two sets, visitors used their better form in attack to score a double 25-14. Surprisingly, they slowed their rhythm in the third set and were almost upset by the Bolivian girls, who were ahead until the 23rd point. But thanks to Jessica Paz, Venezuela reversed the scoring, made it 26-24 on the set and closed the match 3-0, in 68 minutes. With this result, Venezuela leads with four points in two games, followed by Brazil and Argentina who have only played once. Tonight (Wednesday) the third round starts at 7:30 p.m. local time , with Brazil facing Peru. Argentina and Venezuela clash in the other match, while Bolivia has a day off.
