La Paz, Bolivia, October 26, 2004 - The XVII South American Women's Junior Tournament started on Monday October 25 in La Paz, Bolivia, with two comfortable wins by the national sides from Venezuela and Brazil. In the opening match, Venezuela defeated Peru 3-0 ( 25-16, 25-16, 25- 12). Later, the Brazilians upset the hosts, scoring 3-0 (25- 13. 25-13, 25-17) against Bolivia.
At the "Julio Borelli Viteritto" gymnasium , 3000 people saw the Venezuelans use their efficient blocking to keep
the Peruvian side under control. In 70 minutes, they reached an easy 3-0 win.
Brazil didn't have to show their best to beat Bolivia.
Despite the support of the crowd, the Bolivians had little chance against the Brazilian block and attack. With outstanding performances from Regiane Bidias and Verônica Brito, it took Brazil only 61 minutes to win the match in straight sets.
While the Brazilians rest in the round, Argentina will take to the court for their debut on Tuesday against Peru, at 7.30 p.m. local time. In the other match, Bolivia will face Venezuela.
