Santiago, Chile, September 30, 2004 - Following defeat to Argentina on Thursday, Venezuela took an important step towards their goal of reaching the final round of the South American Men's Junior Volleyball Tournament after defeating Colombia 3-0 on Thursday.
With a very solid performance, they won by 25-22, 26-24 and 25-21 and with this result, Venezuela only needs a win over Uruguay on Friday to assure themselves second place in Group B. Colombia's task became much more difficult, as they now need to defeat leaders Argentina to reach the finals.
Thursday began with another defeat by Bolivia. This time they were beaten by Peru, 3-1 (25-7, 25-19, 22-25, 25-16) and finished the competition at the bottom of the table in Group A. The Peruvians on the other hand celebrated their first win of the tournament
A similar situation took place in Group B, where Ecuador upset Uruguay 3-1 (25-19, 24-26, 25-22, 25-15). The Ecuatorians ended their campaign on five points and left the last place in Group B for Uruguay.
Back in Group A, Brazil had no problems in defeating Paraguay 3-0 (25-19, 25-15, 25-11) and moved to the top of the table.
Second place in the group will go to the winner of the Chile-Paraguay clash on Friday.
