Santiago, Chile, September 28, 2004 - Hosts Chile and Argentina jumped to the lead in their respective groups after the latest round of matches at the XVIII South American Men's Junior Volleyball Championship on Tuesday.
Chile, in their second match of the tournament, confirmed they want to go far in the Championship with a straight sets upset win over Peru (25-23, 25-19, 25-09).
In the first match of the day Venezuela, who were runners-up in the last tournament in 2002, played against Ecuador. The Venezuelan side was much stronger throughout the match winning 3-0 (25-15, 25-18, 25-09).
Soon after Argentina took to the court determined to take first place in Group B and found little resistance from Uruguay. With a final score of 3-0 (25-11, 25-15, 25-12) Argentina looked in ominous form.
Closing the round at the Gimnasio Polideportivo de Ņuņoa, favorites Brazil made their Championship debut against Bolivia and the Brazilians were never troubled physically, technically or on the scoreboard by the Bolivians and won easily 3-0 (25-13, 25-12, 25-12).
The tournament, which will qualify teams for the 2005 World Championship continues until Sunday.
