WINNIPEG, Canada, August 5, 2004.- Cuba had an easy win over Canada by a score of 25-17, 25-16, 25-10 in the Junior Menís NORCECA Continental Championships.
The Cubans dominated every aspect of the game and confirmed their condition as big favorites to win the gold medal.
Michael Sanchez was the best scorer for Cuba with 20 points, followed by Osmany Juantorena with 12. Pedro Ortiz and Pedro Rodriguez each added 7 points. Jonathan Marcoux and Louis-Pierre Mainville had 5 apiece for Canada.
During the men's action on Wednesday, Team USA defeated Puerto Rico in four sets by a score of 25-19, 23-25, 25-18, 25-17.
It was a match between two very emotional teams and it was evident that they were there to battle from the opening whistle. At the end, the American arsenal of kills and blocks was the difference.
Jacob Weins led USA with 15 points and Chase Budinger and David Smith added 14 and 12 respectively. For Puerto Rico, Exequiel Cruz had 13 points, Ivan Perez added 12 and Juan Figueroa 9.
