Santo Domingo, April 29, 2004 - The Women's Pan American Cup, a qualifier for the 2005 World Grand Prix, will be played in Tijuana, Mexico on June 16-26, the NORCECA President, Mr. Cristobal Marte, announced.
Ten teams from North and South America will take part in the second edition of this competition which was won by the USA last year when it was again held in Tijuana, a city that has become a hotbed for Volleyball.
Representing the NORCECA region will be: Cuba, USA, Dominican Republic, Canada, Puerto Rico and Costa Rica. From South America the teams are: Brazil, Argentina, Peru and Venezuela.
The top four placed teams of the event will automatically win a berth for next year's World Grand Prix, the most important annual women's tournament organized by the FIVB.
"It will be a good warm-up event for the teams which have already qualified for the next Olympic Games," Mr. Cristobal Marte announced.
Cuba, USA, Brazil and the Dominican Republic are the teams from the American Continent who will be present at the Olympic Games in Athens later this year.
