Asian Tour Beach Volleyball Thailand leg - Phatthalung Day III

Phatthalung, Thailand, April 11, 2004 - China made a clean sweep of the men's and women's categories in the third Loma Asian Tour Beach Volleyball Invitation in Phatthalung on Sunday.

In the women's draw China A's Chen Xue and Ren Zhengqing, who had earlier beaten their counterparts Hong Lina and Yan Ni in the semifinals, rallied from one set down to overpower Ni Putu Timmy Yudhani Rahayu and Siti Nurjanah of Indonesia 12-21 21-9 15-9.

Fifteen-year-old high school student Chen and Ren made a quick start to earn the first point but the Indonesian duo, who had earlier beaten Thailand's No 1 pair Kamolthip Kulna and Jarunee Sannok in the semifinals, quickly got into stride and using their vast experience, showed some fine teamwork to take the first set.

However Chen and Ren shrugged off their sluggish start to cruise home in the second and third sets.

In the third place playoff, China B's Hong Lina and Yan Ni beat defending champions Kamolthip and Jarunee 21-18, 18-21, 15-13.

In the men's event, China B's Qiang and Linyin, who beat New Zealand's Kirk Pitman and Jason Lochhead 21-16 22-20 in the semifinals, won the title after beating Indonesia A's Agus Salim and Koko Prasetyo Darkuncoro 21-14 21-11 in the final.
