Phatthalung, Thailand, April 10, 2004 - Defending champions Kamolthip Kulna and Jarunee Sannok gave the locals something to cheer about when they were the only Thai team to advance to the semifinals of the Loma Asian Tour Beach Volleyball Championship in Phatthalung on Saturday.
Representing the country as the Thai A team Kamolthip and Jarunee wrapped up a straight sets victory over Kazakhstan A's Kim Oxana and Alenkina Yelena
21-19 21-15 in the women's quarter-finals on Lampam beach.
Kamolthip and Jarunee, who entered the last eight after topping pool C with a maximum six points from three matches, needed almost 20 minutes to see off their well-organised opponents in the first set before the strength and height of the 177cm Jarunee and the wit of Kamolthip saw them finish of the match soon after.
"We struggled a bit in the first set as most of the hard work came from our mistakes," said Kamolthip.
"We are struggling for consistency," Kamolthip explained. "Sometimes we can't find the right tempo."
Kamolthip and Jarunee will now face arch-rivals Ni Putu Timmy Yudhani Rahayu and Siti Nurjanah of Indonesia in Sunday's semifinal clash.
Meanwhile it will be an all Chinese affair in the other semifinal clash with Xue Chen and Ren Zhengqing taking on Hong Lina and Yan Ni.
In the men's draw, Indonesia will take on Kazakhastan in one semifinal while New Zealand's Kirk Pitman and Jason Lochhead will face China's Xu Qiang and Xu Linyin for the other final spot.
