Asian Tour Beach Volleyball Thailand leg - Phatthalung Day I

Phatthalung, Thailand, April 9, 2004 - Defending champions Kamolthip Kulna and Jarunee Sannok of Thailand surged into the second round after trouncing teams from Sri Lanka and Japan in the preliminary round of the Loma Asian Beach Volleyball invitation in Phatthalung on Friday.

Kamolthip and Jarunee, who are trying to climb back into the world top 40, put in a remarkable performance in the morning when they beat Sri Lanka's Tharanga Sawwandi and Geethika Gunawarda 21-7 21-10 before stunning the Japanese pair of Nakabayashi and Oda 21-11 21-18.

In the men's division, Sonthi Bunrueng and Apichart Bualuang from Thailand also had a straight sets victory over Japan's Morioka and Shimobayashi.

A total of 55 teams from 16 countries are taking part in the three-day event before contesting the three-day Samila Asian Beach Volleyball Tour second leg in Songkhla, which starts on Tuesday.
