April 16, 2004 - The German Chancellor, Mr. Gerhard Schröder, has assumed the patronage of the Beach Volleyball European Championship finals which are scheduled to run from June 10-13, 2004 in Timmendorfer Strand.
An official letter from the Chancellor's office relating to the matter read: "It is a pleasure for the Chancellor to assume the patronage of the European Championship Finals. He also wishes the organizers continued success with the preparation and the execution of this prestigious tournament." The Chancellor's presence at the event has not yet been confirmed.
The European Championship final is the highlight of the European Tour, the highest ranked Beach Volleyball tournament series in Europe. The top 24 European men's and women's teams will compete for a share of the 200,000 Euro prize money on offer as well as the European Championship trophy. There will also be valuable Olympic qualification points to play for.
