Visakhapatnam (India) April 13 - India won the 4th Asian Youth Volleyball
Championship, defeating the defending champion Iran 3-1 (25-23, 30-28, 23-25,25-20) in 110 minutes in front of about 7000 home crowd here on Sunday.
The victory was sweet. It was the first time India won any Volleyball Asian level title, whether it was Asian championship or Asian Games. Indian coach G.E. Sridharan was elated and said it was an immense pleasure to achieve that honor as the coach. Earlier North Korea combined well to down China 3-0 (25-21,25-20, 28-26 in 70 minutes to take the bronze at the 4th Asian Youth Volleyball Championship on Sunday, placing China fourth. Along with Iran and India, DPR Korea also qualifies for the World Championship. The Koreans again dominated, attacking and blocking well, with Ju Ryong once spiked superbly. In other final day action Thailand finished fifth, beating Australia 3-0 (25-22, 25-14, 25-16).
