MEXICALI, Baja California.- Cuba moved to the finals of the Centennial of Mexicali Cup defeating México 25-22, 25-15, 22-25 and 25-18. The slender Nancy Carrillo was unstoppable in the attack and was complemented by the stellar play of Yumilka Ruiz, the Cuban’s captain, who mixed power with softness against the Mexican wall.
Cuba won easely the first two sets but Mexico reacted in the third led by ace Bibi Candelas and Yendy Cortinas.
The strong defense of Cuba was a determining factor in the fourth an final set where Ruiz showed why she is one of the world’s top players.
