South America Men - Argentina beat Chile easily

CARACAS, Venezuela, January 9, 2004 - Argentina crushed Chile 3-0 (25-16, 25-13, 25-14) in the opening match of the South American Men's Olympic Qualifying tournament in Poliedro Stadium in Caracas on Friday showing some ominous form to the other contenders for the Olympic ticket to Athens.

It was a powerful show from the Argentine team, considered to be the toughest rival for the favorite Venezuelans, with the match only lasting 52 minutes.

Argentina, coached by Fabián Armoa, was superior in every facet with stars Marcos Milinkovic, Gustavo Porporatto, Alejandro Spajic, Jorge Elgueta, Gastón Giani and líbero Pablo Meana all in top form.

Peru and Venezuela will play the next match to complete the first day of the tournament before Saturday sees Argentina play Peru and Venezuela meet Chile.
