Boosted by their silver medal at the 2002 World Championship team the USA women's team has moved into top gear to prepare for the coming season, a vital one which sees Continental Champions and other top teams meet in Japan for the World Cup to compete for a direct berth to the Athens 2004 Olympics.
USA Volleyball reports from Colorado Springs that one Women's World Championship silver medallist and six collegiate All-Americans headline the 13-member 2003 USA Women's Volleyball training team roster selected by head coach Toshi Yoshida.
The team begins training on Thursday, Jan. 30. The players will be vying for roster positions on the U.S. women's national team that will be competing at the Montreux Volley Masters, the Pan American Cup, the World Grand Prix, the Pan American Games and the NORCECA Continental Championships later in the year. The NORCECA championship serves as a qualifier for the World Cup
The 13 athletes invited to train as part of the national team are: Erin Aldrich, Wiz Bachman, Paige Benjamin, Lindsey Berg, Dana Burkholder, Erin Byrd, Sarah Drury, Addie Hauschild, Brittany Hochevar, Kim Kester, Tracy Stalls, Suzanne Stonebarger and Elisha Thomas.
