Africa Men - Hosts register first victory

Tunis, Tunisia, January 6, 2004 - Hosts Tunisia recorded their first victory at the African Olympic Qualification tournament here on the second day in Tunisia after beating Algeria 3-0 (25-21, 25-18, 25-16) on Tuesday.

Although the match ended in straight sets the match created a superb atmosphere in front of 1200 spectators led by Zeribi Mohamed, the General Director of Sports in Tunisia.

The host team led from the start through their solid block and successful spiking from Noureddine Hfeiedh and although Algeria adjusted their block to narrow deficit Tunisia still wrapped up the first set in 17 minutes.

In the second set Algeria started to use the talented spikes of Guemmadi Hichem to lead 3-1 but Tunisia used the artistry of their setter Ghazi Guidara to open a four-point lead at 16-12 before claiming the set in 21 minutes.

In the third set the depressed Algerian players couldn't stop the Tunisian attacks at the net and set and the match was over 19 minutes later.
