January 3, 2004 - The Algerian men’s team leaves on Saturday to participate in the African Olympic Qualification Tournament, which runs from January 5-10, in Tunisia knowing they have had the best possible preparation for the crucial event.
Algeria, who reached the semifinals in both the African Nations’ Championship and all Africa Games in 2003, will be one of five teams (the others being Tunisia, Egypt, Nigeria and South Africa) fighting for the one ticket to Greece and they a well prepared for the toughest of battles.
The Cuban head coach of the team Morales Gonzales put his squad through a training camp in December in France, which included five friendly matches with French first division clubs. The preparation programme continued in Algeria over Christmas with the two European based professional players Gomadi Hesham and Mehdi Hashmi joining the team. Experienced players like Mohamed Nassim, Hider Amiza and Hedroug Nassim are also expected to be key players for Gonzales.
