October 21, 2003 - The Polish Volleyball Federation Board of Administration meets on Tuesday in Warsaw to discuss their search for a new coach of their national men's team following the resignation of Waldemar Wspanialy on Monday.
Wspanialy started in the job in July 2001, taking over from Ryszard Bosek, but immediately got off to a poor start as the white-and-reds failed to qualify for the 2002 World Championship. Fortunately for him and his players Poland was eventually invited by the FIVB to participate in Argentina, after Korea had been excluded. However, the Poles missed a great chance for success, finishing in 9th place.
Wspanialy took Poland to two European Championship finals, in 2001 and 2003, where they finished 5th each time. The same result achieved in the 2002 World League before finishing in ninth spot in the 2003 edition.
A successor is expected to be appointed soon as Poland is due to take part in the European Olympic Qualifying tournament in Germany, in January 2004.
