Gimmillaro to Receive USA Volleyball All-Time Great Coach Award

August 28, 2003 - LONG BEACH, Calif. Brian Gimmillaro, long-time head coach of the Long Beach State women's volleyball team, will be honored on Saturday with the USA Volleyball All-Time Great Coach Award.

Dr. Robert C. Maxson, the LBSU president, is scheduled to present the award to Gimmillaro, who is about to begin his 19th season at the university, prior to a game between Long Beach State and Texas. It is one of the highest honors a coach can receive from USA Volleyball.

Gimmillaro has compiled a 510-110 career record entering the 2003 season and boasts an impressive resume that includes: three national championships, eight conference crowns and 17 NCAA post-season tournaments. In 1998, Gimmillaro led his team to a perfect 36-0 record, which was the first undefeated team in NCAA women's Volleyball history.

Gimmillaro has also coached some of the best Volleyball players in NCAA history as well, including Beach Volleyball star Misty May and national team stars Tara Cross-Battle and Danielle Scott. All three players were named as National Players of the Year, and all represented the United States in past Olympics.
