Dr. Robert C. Maxson, the LBSU president, is scheduled to present the award to Gimmillaro, who is about to begin his 19th season at the university, prior to a game between Long Beach State and Texas. It is one of the highest honors a coach can receive from USA Volleyball.

Gimmillaro has compiled a 510-110 career record entering the 2003 season and boasts an impressive resume that includes: three national championships, eight conference crowns and 17 NCAA post-season tournaments. All three players were named as National Players of the Year, and all represented the United States in past Olympics.
