Yudelkis Bautista euphoric after election as MVP
Santo Domingo, Dominican Republic, August 16 2003 - Dominican Yudelkis Bautista was euphoric after her election as the Most Valuable Player of the Pan American Games women's volleyball tournament.
"I have been working so hard for many years and it is the first time I get this type of recognition," said the 194 cm-tall player. "I would like to dedicate this award to the fans, especially my mother, my sisters and my daughter."
"I am feeling great physically with tremendous strength to do my job," said Bautista who finished the competition with 84 points second only to USA's
Nicole Branagh who scored a total of 87 points.
Other Dominicans among the top players of the tournament were Cosiris Rodriguez as best defense and reception, Annerys Vargas as best service and blocker, and libero Evelyn Carrera.
Fitzgerald of USA was elected the best setter and Cuban Nancy Carrillo
was the best attacker.
