Pan Am Games Volleyball resumes Sunday with quarterfinals

August 09, 2003 - The Volleyball tournament of the Pan American Games resumes this Sunday with the quarterfinals matches where Venezuela will meet Canada and Cuba faces Dominican Republic in menís action.

The first match of the day will have teams from Barbados and Puerto Rico playing for the seventh place.

On Monday the event moves to the womenís section with USA playing against Venezuela and Puerto Rico going against host Dominican Republic.

Peru and Mexico will open the day playing off for seventhspot.

USA and Brazil men's squads are already in the semifinal phase after winning their respective pools while Brazil and Cuba finished tops among the women.

Brazil is a heavy favorite to win the menís gold medal with a squad crowded with the stars who won the World Championship and World League titles.

Among the women, Cuba is a slight favorite but they are no longer the powerhouse that won seven gold medals in the Pan American Games and the gold medal looks up for grabs.
