12th Asian Men's Volleyball Championship to be held in China

August 09, 2003 - Tianjin of China will play hosts to the 12th Asian Men's Volleyball Championship from September 5 to 12, with the top two finishers qualifying for the World Cup this November in Japan.

The President of the Asian Volleyball Federation Wei Jizhong said in Tianjin yesterday that the Championship, first to be held in China, will feature the best squads in Asia, with the top two finishers qualifying for the World Cup in November, and the best five squads for the 2004 Athens Olympic qualifying tournaments.

Already registered for the championships are 15 squads, including Korea, Japan, Indonesia, Saudi Arabia, United Arab Emirates, Qatar, Thailand,Iran, Australia and the hosts China. The participating teams are pooled into four groups with the top two in each group entering the quarter-finals.
