About one month before the European Championship (Sept 5-14 in Karlsruhe, Leipzig and Berlin, German national trainer Stelian Moculescu has decided to use Marco Liefke and Christian Pampel as opposite hitters in his lineup.
Moculescu has also left Michael Mayer out of his lineup for the European Championship, effective immediately. Mayer, formerly of Unterhaching has transferred to Belgian champions Maaseik.
For the training camp, beginning August 2 in Heidelberg, Moculescu has taken 14 players " from which the final 12 players will be nominated for the championship," he said.
Included are nine players from clubs abroad, more than ever before in the German national team. Four play in the Italian league, two in France, two in Belgium and one in Poland. The club Berlin SCC contributes three players.
After the training camp the tem plays two international friendlies with Romania, one in Heidelberg on Aug 9 (19.30) and one day later in Riedstadt-Goddelau, also at 1930.
"In this phase we will concentate on fitness training, then this will be followed by matches. That gives us some variety in the program and it is better for the preparation," Moculescu told his team.
