Santo Domingo, August 1 - Women's teams of Puerto Rico and Peru will inaugurate the Volleyball tournament
of the Pan American Games next Sunday at 12:00 local time (USA Eastern Time),
followed by the USA-Brazil match at 14:00.
The first day of action will see also USA men's side facing Barbados at 18:00
and Dominican Republic's men team against Venezuela in the nightcap.
A total of four matches will be played daily with the genders alternating the
USA, Barbados, Venezuela and Dominican Republic play in Pool A of the men's
tournament while Cuba, Puerto Rico, Canada and Brazil play in Pool B.
In the women's event Puerto Rico, Peru, USA and Brazil are in Pool A and Cuba,
Venezuela, Mexico and Dominican Republic play in Pool B.
The teams will play a round robin with the winner of each pool advancing
directly to the semifinal phase. The teams placed in fourth will play for the
seventh spot in the standing while the second and third places playing
quarterfinals crossed matches.
The schedule for the preliminary round is as follows:
August 3: Puerto Rico vs Peru, USA vs Brazil.
August 4: Cuba vs Venezuela, Dominican Republic vs México
August 5: Brazil vs Peru, Puerto Rico vs USA
August 6: Cuba vs México, Dominican Republic vs Venezuela
August 7: USA vs Peru, Puerto Rico vs Brazil
August 8: México vs Venezuela, Dominican Republic vs Cuba
August 3: USA vs Barbados, Dominican Republic vs Venezuela
August 4 Cuba vs Puerto Rico, Canada vs Brazil
August 5: Barbados vs Venezuela, Dominican Republic vs USA
August 6: Cuba vs Canada, Puerto Rico vs Brazil
August 7: USA vs Venezuela, Dominican Republic vs Barbados
August 8: Canada vs Puerto Rico, Brazil vs Cuba
